Our Vision

Little Bottoms Free Store opened in March 2019 with a vision of creating a community of neighbors becoming the village it takes to raise a child. Little Bottoms provides free diapers, wipes, baby clothes, books, coats, baby gear, and other basic needs for parents and families who are pregnant or have children 0-3 years of age. In addition to providing basic needs, Little Bottoms is creating a community where families can have a safe place to relax, visit, build friendships, and discover community resources and agencies.

Little Bottoms Free Store was birthed out of a desire to support our most at-risk families and babies on the Westside of Columbus, addressing the social determinants of health that disproportionately impact our families and lead to elevated infant mortality rates in our neighborhoods. Most causes of infant death are preventable when pregnant women receive the access to prenatal care that they need, early and often, and when family members and friends know and practice the ABCs of Safe Sleep (Alone, Back, Crib).

Our Mission

Fostering a safe nurturing environment while providing essential baby supplies for disadvantaged Franklin County, Ohio families with children aged 3 and under.

Our Impact

In 2022 alone, we distributed nearly 76,000 diapers, 12,000 outfits and over 2000 packs of wipes to over 1300 children. We estimate 20-25% of Columbus families with children age 3 and under who fall below the poverty line have connected with our services at least once since we opened our doors.

The Village It Takes To Raise A Child
Little Bottoms desires to create a safe and consistent, reliable space for families to show up, be loved, and build relationships of mutual care and concern, building the foundation for the village it takes to raise a child. Our work is supported through community partnerships and donations including local churches like Trinity UMC, New Albany UMC, Scioto Ridge UMC, Bethel UMC, Indian Run UMC, Contrast Church and many more, the Columbus Diaper Bank, Celebrate ONE (City of Columbus), Franklinton Board of Trade, Mt. Carmel Health, CareSource, the Columbus Coalition for the Homeless, and many more.

Our Team
Our work is led by a passionate, dedicated, growing team of about 76 volunteers and overseen by our Executive Director, Heidi Weaver-Smith and our Board of Directors. Our leadership team has over 65 years of combined experience leading in non-profit and community development initiatives including mentoring women and moms, nursing, anti-racism initiatives, food pantries, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, and working with at-risk youth.
